Here are the pictures from the trip to Cancun. Basically, my parents took me to Mexico for a week of R and R. They are saints! Hurray! We had a spectacular time sitting and reading and sitting some more. The Caribbean is the most beautiful piece of ocean I've ever seen. That turquoise water cannot be beat. Here's the picture of the back porch of our hotel on Friday evening when we got there.

The flight down was wonderful and the whole trip was perfect. "Hola Senorita, can I get you a pina colada?" "Hola Senorita, would you like some fresh fruit? Would you like a moist towel? Would you like to sit down? Would you like to relax?" "Si! Muchas gracias!" On Monday, we went to Chichen Itza. Here's the main temple at the complex.

This place is nuts. When you clap in the main plaza, the sound that echos off the temple is the same sound that a local bird (that bears the same name as the temple) makes. Interesante Mayans! The name essentially means Savior or Redeemer . . . the same as "Tacoma" up here in Washington. Really? Tacoma? Sad with what they've done with that town. Anyway, our guide was hilarious as he kept asking me questions, telling my mom to write down all the answers, and then my dad to be in every picture. Good thing I studied up on my pre-Columbian history before I got there . . . and watched a bit of PBS growing up. Here's the cenote that we visited (but did not go swimming in) during lunch.

In retrospect, the water probably was okay to swim in. Next time. Then after lunch, on to Tulum, the temple by the sea! Very interesting as well. Here's my dad viewing the prospect.

And here's a picture of the beach behind the complex. Nice digs peeps!

And then . . . we went snorkeling on a island off the coast of the Yucatan called Isla Mujeres where we rented a golf cart. Huzzah! Here's a picture of my dad and I waiting for the ferry.

And then the little town was so, so cute. Here's a view of the Playa Norte from the cart.

Here's the place where we went snorkeling. We saw starfish, lots of tropical fish among the reef, baracuda, and two canons!

The rest of the days (Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday) were spent sitting at the beach reading. Here's the view of our beach right outside our hotel.

And here was my view for most of the time.

Oh, and this was our hilarious biodegradable sunscreen that left something to be desired . . . but actually worked really well!

Uh, I am wearing board shorts over my swimming suit in this photo, I was just trying to show the sunscreen. It was a week of paradise. THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!!!

It looks so amazing! Congratulations on finishing your thesis and for going to Mexico! Can't wait to hear all of the details!
Chris, you're a babe. Can I be like you when I grow up? Hopefully we can see each other again before too many more years slip by...
Did you bring back the swine flu? My friend who lives in Seattle is convinced she had it. We'll call you "Swine Flu Chris." Don't worry, the name will catch on and you'll one day be as popular as Typhoid Mary. It will be awesome. Oh, and the trip looked amazing.
